Speed or better known as bandwidth is the speed at which data is transferred. Sometimes, bandwidth is also used to refer to the maximum capacity, or the fastest, that a connection could move data.
Broadband | Download speed |
U mobile | 3.6 Mbps |
Wiggy 59 | 600 Kbps |
Digi Discover | 512 Kbps |
Celcom Broadband Basic | 700 Kbps |
Maxis Starter | Uncapped speed |
From the table, we can see that U mobile has the fastest bandwidth among the other broadband. We can also see that Maxis Starter’s bandwidth is written as uncapped speed (according to Maxis official website, Maxis.com), which means unlimited speed. On the other hand, Digi Discover had the slowest bandwidth.
However, the speed or bandwidth doesn't necessarily be like shown in the table. It also depends on current network traffic and overall network subscribers. Although we can see that Celcom have a higher speed than Digi and Wiggy, but because of the large number of subscribers in Malaysia (nearly 500k) it will cause the traffic to become more congested, and thus, lower speed.
Speed also depends on location and signal strength. If you're living in a city, the probability that you get a signal is higher than those who is living in a remote area.
We can see that they are many factors affecting speed, thus, we need to be really careful in choosing the best option for us.
